Es aquí, en ese lugar modesto, donde una tarde de 1951 Lola conocerá a Alice, una mujer que ha encontrado en los libros su razón de vivir. Siguiendo la mirada de Lola y Alice, viendolas sentadas detrás del pobre mostrador y leyendo juntas el mismo libro, iremos lejos, hasta Inglaterra, y atrás en el tiempo, hacia principios del siglo XX, para conocer a una niña que creió preguntándose quienes eran sus padres.
